I have a new kid here.. very young little dude.. that's been started on live Mice. The previous person "caring" for him, insists that "this is what he'd find in the wild and this is what he'll eat.. until he's transferred to Rats.. " . Umm.. yeah.. so.....
Do you guys start your Retics on mice or have you been successful with starting them on rat pups?
I'd like to hear some experiences and what not..

I started both Shrek and Fiona on rat pups. Same as Burms, they will be too damned big for mice in no time flat. Why risk a tough switch?
I don't know why they did it this way.. blah! I'm not thrilled about it.. so wish me "luck" on getting him on rat pups.

I've even started some of my colubrids off on rats.. teeny tiny ones, of course.. but still. I'm really shocked when I find anyone has started a large constrictor on mice.. for the reason that Joel mentioned. It's an unnecessary step, in my opinion.
mine was started on mice by the breeder. however, i found it easy to switch her over to rats by scenting two of her mice, since then she eats her big nasty rats no prob

I'd go with rat pup's right out of the gate. I had some good luck with pregnant female mice but rat pups are easier to find.
Retic's are pretty easy to switch over I personally have never had a problem, but I'm far from ultra-experienced.
