Spent the entire day at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences exhibiting my Indigo and my ARB. Set up a table with Dawn, who brought a couple pythons to show.

I'm too exhausted to re-size and crop all the photos, but wanted to post these. Got to see both extremes of the albino burm spectrum. First up is Dawn's awesome little baby albino. Then we got to check out Dan Liebel's 14' footer. While I have experience with snakes, I don't have experience with the big boys, so it was a thrill to have a snake that weighs as much as me (and would weigh more if I could get rid of my fat belly) around my shoulders. This one was about 175 lbs. Fun stuff.

Okay, I need to hit the sack. I'll get more pics posted in a few days.

Thanks,
Ed

Well thank you. That made my evening. But just in case, I skipped dessert tonight. Smile

Dawn, I got quite a few silly comments/questions as well. No less than three people asked me if Jack (my Indigo) was a black mamba!

My herp society makes public appearances at least monthly. It seems no matter where we go, someone is an expert... lol

Really though, these are the people I try to reach out to the most! While they are missinformed it is obvious they have some sort of interest. If I can educate this person and influence them to keep a reptile as a pet, I've killed two birds with one stone. I know that the animal is in good hands, and we get another keeper in our corner to fight legislation.

Kudos for gettin out there with your animals!

Dawn, if you can't find one, start one! I'm not going to beat around the bush, it's a lot of work if you want it to be more than a club. There is also a bunch of startup expenses. However a couple determined people can do it!

It's my opinion, every state NEEDS a good herp society! A long story short, my late wife and I found a "herp society" here in WI. We realized quickly that it was nothing more than a club, and we wanted something more serious. It turned out so did all the members but the "founders"! So, we left and started our own group. After two years, a ton of work, and a considerable amount of money we are probably one of the most active societies in the Midwest. We travel all over Wisconsin and Illinois we have been to Indiana and plan to make appearances in Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan in the next couple years. We were at the NARBC February Summit and will be to all of them in the future. We do shows for at least one public non-reptile group a month and we do every reptile show in WI.

It's worth every minute! It's so much fun, I can't think of anything I'd rather do. I strongly suggest, anyone who doesn't have a local group to start one. Dawn, if you, or anyone else, decides to start a herp society don't hesitate to call me! It's a ton of work and myself and the other members in my orginization would be happy to lend any advice we can from filing 501c3 paperwork to tips on how to get things at a heavy discount if not FREE.

Ok I'll stop babbling now! Smile lol
oh wow thanks nick for the advice i am going to defaintly look into itSmile and i wouldn't mind starting my own or doing stuff at schools or even bday parties for kids Smile
