The heat tape in my rack started to melt the bucket. When I slid the bucket back in, the heat probe got pushed off the heat tape and was running super hot. Luckly I always check my snake room first thing in the morning and before I go to bed.
Right but certain animals were put in certain areas of the world for a reason, unless we get rid of the pythons, all of the other animals will suffer. The alligator can't handle the python and they have even killed a two year old child down here in Florida before when it got out of it's cage. It suffocated him in his crib but did not eat him because it couldn't fit his shoulder blades down its throat. At 26 feet one of these snakes enters anaconda territory as far as a danger to the public and the natural ecosystem. If none of our native animals are equipped to handle them we must eradicate them ourselves. You can't use toxins to do it because you risk killing everything else but you can pay people to kill them. Let's face it in this economy most people would jump at the chance to earn a living even if it means hunting giant snakes. One python can lay 36 eggs at a time. Also they are very protective of their young which is unusual for a snake because most don't protect the young after they are born. Otherwise other animals would pick the juveniles off. One example is the cobra, they are on their own from the moment they hatch and many are eaten by predators. Now you could release anacondas to eat the pythons but in the end you will just have a new and more dangerous problem and then they would destroy the alligator population. This reminds me of the same problem we had when I lived in Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio with the great lakes. The lamprey eel and zebra mussel are both foreign invasive species that do heavy damage to the fish populations as well as the mussels that ruin pumps and ships. These pythons today are third and fourth generation animals that were born here, not released by pet stores. It obviously started like that but now they estimate up to 500,000 in Florida. The worst part is that some die in the winter each year but some are able to adapt to cold weather. These snakes are then producing young that can handle the cold weather. The wildlife officials are estimating that if they continue to spread north they will be able to inhabit all of Florida, the entire gulf coast, and eventually move all the way to Houston. See another example would be the Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake. All the rattle snake round ups only killed the ones that rattle. Some don't rattle before they strike so they are producing young that don't rattle either. So we are creating silent seven foot rattlesnakes. Mess around with nature and it eventually finds a way to mess with you.

Hey guy's I'm drawing up plans to build an 8'x30"x18" enclosure. I don't need it for a while so I'm taking the time and putting all the research into it that I can. I just wanted to hear some of your opinions about Pro-Products Radiant Heat Panels. I know I definitely want to do a RHP and I've been researching around and it seems ProProducts are the best ones but they claim that rank with a pretty high price. After Emailing them today, they said I needed a PH-153, 210 watt, 715 btu/h, 18"x36" panel. With shipping and tax that comes out to an over $300 panel!

Is their equipment really so much better to be worth over twice the price of others that I've seen? I mean I'm building this enclosure with full intention of doing it right but it wouldn't hurt to save a little money along with it. Professional cage builders I've talked to would charge me between $100 and $150 for a panel installed in one of their cages.

Sorry to be so long winded but I need a professional opinion before I shed out twice the cash for a heater. I've read on here that a lot of you guys have these but I've read plenty of threads touting other RHPs also.

Thanks for the help

PS Pro-Products service alone is something to consider they responded with an extremely thorough Email within two hours of me inquiring about them.

I am currently waiting on my first Retic. He just recently hatched so it will be a few weeks before he is shipped to me. What size tank should I get him to start out in do you think? I want to make sure I have everything ready of course when he gets here. Also, do they tend to be more nippy than baby burms? I know they are alert and intelligent and how big they can get and all that. I am prepared for that. Hubby is building cages for my big girl burm and for when my male burm is too big for the enclosures we have. Since I have never actually had a retic of my own, I just want to know a little more in what to expect. I have had people tell me "oh no u can't have a retic, they are mean"....I call BS. I have handled some before and they were fine but never been around a baby one. :-) So thanks to anyone who has helpful info.
